Infertility

TCM & Infertility

The use of TCM in relation to infertility dates back to over 2000 years ago. As it has been shown through extensive research, that traditional practices such as herbal medicine, acupuncture and other traditional medical interventions may improve fertility rates and the quality of life for patients undergoing IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). This is due to Acupuncture assisting with increasing blood flow to the uterus, normalizing hormones and endocrine systems, regulating the menstrual cycle and affecting the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, which are all key parts of fertilization.

The traditional Qi energy, used similarly in other symptomatic health disorders, is incorporated into not just identifying the issues, but finding solutions or the exact point of conflict. Infertility matches the symptoms of a Qi system that is imbalanced and the energy is unable to move freely around the body and to various organs. Acupuncture in this case, potentially raises the fertility level of the patient by nourishing the blood flow by improving the balance of blood and Qi flow.

Kidney Organ system:

The ovum, an important part of initially fertilizing, is released by the kidneys, which can also control the growth and the development of the body. A healthy pregnancy and life require healthy kidneys; so by supporting the kidney’s health through acupuncture, you may reduce certain risks of infertility.

Spleen Organ System:

The spleen is a vital part of maintaining a sufficient blood supply. Having an imbalance with the spleen may lead to future complications with their menstrual cycles and therefore, pregnancies and child producing. TCM enables a more fluent blood flow to the uterus, which can potentially reduce risk of complications.

Liver Organ System:

Free flowing energy throughout the body requires a healthy liver, that is not influenced by an imbalance Qi, as this can lead to many symptoms such as anxiety, stress, depression and increased chance of infertility.

Acupuncture is most effective in managing the liver, as there are many benefits that people undergoing the process may find more beneficial from other methods. Acupuncture is natural, meaning all of it is drug-free and safe. It doesn’t just treat symptoms, rather it activates natural healing systems in the body in order to moderate the issues, meaning it gets to the root of the problem. Acupuncture has also shown signs of managing symptoms of pregnancy such as relieving labour pain and reducing the duration of labour as well as nausea and vomiting.
